Roxy Roca Gets Greasy at 3TenAustin

Roxy Roca's recent evolution from a funk/soul band to a dynamic blues-infused rock ’n roll powerhouse exemplifies the transformative power of change. Lead singer Taye Canon's reflections shed light on the band's musical journey, revealing how their collective shift in interests, coupled with the departure of longtime members during the pandemic, led to a resolute decision to embrace a new rock-inspired direction.

In a recent interview Cannon put it this way, “I think our musical interests started going in a different direction and as players have changed over the years, new band members came in, and when we got to the pandemic it was just like the perfect turning point. During the time of the pandemic when everything was turned on its head, our horn players wanted to pursue different careers, and they were with us for a long time and instead of starting over we were like “Ya know what? Let’s ROCK!””.

At the debut of their latest album "Greasy" at 3TenAustin on October 3rd, the band delivered an electrifying 14-song set, featuring a vibrant mix of new tracks like "The Nomad," "Life Is Grand," "Take Me Back," and "Yazoo Queen," along with crowd-favorites including “Taurus” and “I am” from their 2018 release, A Better Way.

Despite the absence of guitarist Babis 'BB' Tyropolous, whose distinctive work defines the new recording, the band amplified the musical depth with the keyboard talents of Adam Pryor, who joins the band during the recording of “Greasy”. Former member Austin Roach and Aaron Echegaray stepped in to support the performance in place of Babis, showcasing the band's unwavering resilience and adaptability.

Roxy Roca's compelling performance marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band, resonating deeply with their loyal fan base and signaling a promising and productive renaissance for their musical journey.
