Steve Hackett's Majestic Return: A Night of Genesis Nostalgia

Steve Hackett ex-member of Genesis performed at the Majestic theater on April 6th 2022, in his first performance since July 25th, 1986 at the Bronco Bowl with his former “Super Group” GTR supporting their first album


Steve and band were in the final weeks of the Genesis Revisited - Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour, which was announced in 2021, and began on the 9th of September 2022 at the Swansea Arena.


Joining Steve on this tour were band fixtures:  Steve Hackett - Guitar & vocals, Nad Sylvan – Vocals, Roger King – Keyboards, Rob Townsend - Sax, flute, percussion & keys & vocals, Jonas Reingold - Bass guitar, twelve string & vocals, and Craig Blundell - Drums & vocals


Steve is also using this tour to bring his new and highly acclaimed album The Circus And The Nightwhale to life with selections from that album as well. 


The performance is broken into two halves with the first being music from Steve’s solo work, and the second half of the performance the entire Foxtrot album as well as an Encore of Genesis songs.

Steve Hackett, former Genesis member and renowned solo guitar performer, graced the stage of the Majestic Theater in Dallas, TX on April 6, 2024, marking a historic return since his last performance in 1986 with his former "Super Group" GTR. This concert was part of his Genesis Revisited - Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour, which kicked off in September 2022 and celebrated the iconic Foxtrot album's 50th anniversary. Accompanied by a stellar lineup of the most talented musicians in progressive rock, including Nad Sylvan on vocals, Roger King on keyboards, Rob Townsend on sax and flute, Jonas Reingold on bass, and Craig Blundell on drums, Steve mesmerized the audience with a captivating blend of solo compositions and Genesis classics.


The first set showcased Steve's solo masterpieces, starting with the evocative "People of the Smoke" and traversing through enchanting tracks like "Circo Inferno," and "The Devil's Cathedral," from his recently released album The Circus and the Nightwhale. A highlight was "Basic Instincts," featuring a mesmerizing bass solo by Jonas Reingold, followed by the epic "Shadow of the Hierophant," showcasing Steve's virtuosity and emotive guitar prowess.


The second set transitioned seamlessly into the Genesis era, paying homage to the timeless Foxtrot album, performed in its entirety. Fans erupted with applause as they were treated to the opening notes of the iconic track "Watcher of the Skies", then proceeding through the album with tracks; "Time Table",  “Get 'em Out by Friday”, “Can-Utility and the Coastliners”, the emotive acoustic “Horizons” and finishing the set with the prog-rock epic "Supper's Ready". Fans were transported back to the golden age of progressive rock with every note. The encore further delighted the audience with Genesis classics, "Firth of Fifth" and "Los Endos," connected by a massive drum solo by Craig Blundell.


Throughout the performance, Steve Hackett's guitar performance captivated the audience, showcasing his never-ending evolution as a musician while paying homage to his iconic Genesis roots. The Majestic Theater witnessed a night of nostalgia, musical brilliance, and a celebration of Steve Hackett's enduring legacy in the realm of progressive rock. Dallas can only hope Steve and band return for the next tour which will feature both more of his solo work along with a collection of songs from the Genesis concept album from 1974, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
